This past weekend, HoopFests Tour had the special opportunity to travel down to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the annual Prep Hoops Showcase. Almost 200 players 2024-2027 participated, we we’re able to see a lot of athleticism, talent, competition and organization it was an awesome day of basketball. The amount of talent in South is continuing to rise, here’s a few player that stood out amongst them all and caught our attention.
Jordan Matthews (’25) 5’11 Point Guard – Vandebilt Catholic High School – Houma (LA)
Jordan Matthews is clearly one of the best 2025 point guards in the state of Louisiana. Matthews is a sharp shooting point guard that always make the right plays, never in a rush, controls the tempo of the game, make open shots, never turns the ball over and can shoot the ball from anywhere on the court.
Kobe Butler (’25) 6’6 Forward – Shaw High School – Marrero (LA)
Kobe Butler is continuing to climb up rankings and working on his game. Butler is a young 2025 prospect who has all the tools, long arms, height, size, sneaky athletic, good shooting form, rebounds well, shows signs of handling the ball and guards multiple positions.
Justin Houston (’25) 6’9 Power Forward – Calvary Baptist – Shreveport (LA)
Justin Houston is the definition of the word raw. Houston has all the intangibles to be a good with more reps, very good size, nice long frame, long legs, runs the court well, attacks the glass and rebounds well. Also, love the fact that Houston goes after every shot that goes up. Excited to see Butler with more experience and game reps.
FRESHMEN STANDOUTS
Parker Robinson is a playmaker. Robinson shoots the ball well, plays hard, good handle, always gets the loose ball, made several contestant shoots over defenders. Every time he touches the ball, he looks to make plays and can score from all three levels. Besides scoring the ball non stop, he didn’t shy away from diving on the floor.
Emanuel Young (’27) 5’10 Point Guard – De La Salle High School – New Orleans (LA)
Emanuel Young is a floor general. Young is very crafty with the ball, high IG, great passer, lightning quick with ball and make plays in the open court. Also, did a great job attacking defenders, looking to score, got his teammates involved and did a good job sitting low and guarding.
